Rono Xia is the founder of Maitreya Inc, a public benefit corporation building safer online communities for children, and the creator of The Operators Room, where she teaches people to run their own small AI team. She builds from the intersection of three identities: neurodivergent, a survivor, and the working-class daughter of migrant workers in Shanghai who came to the US in 2015 as an international student with no inherited network. Because she has had to build outside the systems meant to serve her, she designs technology for the people the internet leaves isolated. She holds two B.S. degrees from UCLA, in Neuroscience and Computational & Systems Biology, and documents building her business in the open at ronoxia.com.
